Little Athletes, Big Dreams

Started in 2009, the Surrey School District Special Track Meets for children with Special Needs take place over two days each May. In 2016, over 400 athletes from 80 different elementary schools participated. This event provides all students the opportunity to participate in track and field and to pursue athletic excellence. Many students say that this day “is the best day of their life!” They get to wear their school jerseys, win ribbons and medallions that celebrate their determination and effort. While the cheering and applause eventually end and the equipment is stored away for another year; the feelings of accomplishment and increased confidence remain forever!
