OUR LEARNERS

Teachers take out students to explore the natural environment as part of the Kindergarten curriculum.

"Curiosity and wonder lead us to new discoveries about ourselves and the world around us."

Many activities arise from these excursions. From observing the plant and bug life in the pond, to discoveries about nest building , students will draw, paint, count, build, write and discuss their wonders, discoveries and build on their knowledge of the environment around them.

Our older learners will read,  observe, draw conclusions, make inferences, ask questions, use rubrics, self and peer assessment and personal reflections as part of their exploration of all different aspects of the curriculum.

Teachers will design activities that allow for them to  "Explore stories and other texts helps students understand ourselves and make connections to others and to the world.".

Part of the learning process is to be able to reflect and make steps to improve.

Teachers will focus on activities, lessons and inquiries that allow for students to:

  • Access information and ideas for diverse purposes and from a variety of sources and evaluate their relevance, accuracy, and reliability
  • Apply appropriate strategies to comprehend written, oral, and visual texts, guide inquiry, and extend thinking
  • Synthesize ideas from a variety of sources to build understanding
  • Recognize and appreciate how different features, forms, and genres of texts reflect different purposes, audiences, and messages
  • Think critically, creatively, and reflectively to explore ideas within, between, and beyond texts
  • Recognize and identify the role of personal, social, and cultural contexts, values, and perspectives in texts
