Boundary Park Elementary is located in the Newton area of Surrey, British Columbia, nestled within a residential community and surrounded by natural beauty. Our school is home to 217 students, and we proudly reflect the cultural and linguistic diversity of our city.
At Boundary Park, over 50% of our students speak a language other than English at home. In total, 18 different languages are spoken by our families, with Punjabi, Arabic, Hindi, Pashto, and Urdu being the most common after English. We embrace and celebrate this cultural richness throughout the year, creating opportunities for students and families to share their heritage, traditions, and stories with our school community.
Leadership is a key part of the Boundary Park experience. Our students take pride in contributing to school life in meaningful ways, as School Ambassadors, Fit Kids leaders, Assembly Hosts, Walk and Roll Wednesday organizers, and Announcement Monitors. These opportunities empower students to grow their confidence, take initiative, and model positive citizenship.
We also have an active and athletic student population who love to stay engaged through physical activity. Students enjoy participating in organized team sports, intramural games, and even daily recess and lunchtime hockey on our paved areas. Our staff supports and encourages this enthusiasm by providing access to sports equipment, creating safe and inclusive play spaces, and fostering a culture of teamwork and healthy living.
We are committed to fostering a school environment where every student feels seen, valued, and supported. Through inclusive practices, engaging learning experiences, and strong community connections, Boundary Park continues to be a place where students thrive both personally and academically.

At Boundary Park Elementary, we believe that literacy is more than just reading and writing. It is a vital life skill that empowers our students to communicate, think critically, and make sense of the world around them. Rooted in British Columbia’s curriculum, the core competency of Communication is integrated across all areas of learning. It supports our students in becoming confident, expressive, and thoughtful individuals.
Our learners are developing their literacy skills in meaningful and engaging ways. They are learning to visualize, question, and infer as they read, which helps deepen their understanding and express their thinking with clarity and creativity. Whether through story workshops, hands-on learning, or collaborative conversations, our students are finding their voices and sharing their ideas with confidence.
This video showcases a few examples of our students sharing their personal perspectives on reading, including what they enjoy and what helps them understand what they’re reading.
Primary students have been working on improving reading accuracy and fluency through structured decoding lessons and regular practice with decodable texts. With the support of UFLI strategies and Haggerty phonemic awareness instruction, students are building strong foundational skills in phonics and sound awareness. In addition, some classes are using the Daily 5 framework. This includes Read to Self, Read to Someone, Work on Writing, Word Work, and Listen to Reading. These practices help foster independence, engagement, and a love for literacy.
Intermediate students have focused on developing comprehension strategies to foster deeper engagement with texts. They are learning to ask and answer questions, summarize key ideas, make predictions, infer meaning, and analyze characters. These strategies help students think critically and connect more deeply with what they read.
At Boundary Park, we celebrate the many gifts, attributes, and competencies of our learners. Their growth in literacy reflects not only academic progress but also their development as thoughtful, curious, and capable individuals.
In this sample, students demonstrate their learning by reading aloud from their journals, offering a glimpse into their developing voices as writers and storytellers.
Our early learners are especially eager to share their ideas and stories. As they write, they are actively applying decoding strategies and building phonemic awareness, which are foundational skills in early literacy. These young authors are not only learning how to read and write, they are learning how to express themselves with confidence and joy.

In this section, you’ll hear directly from our students as they read their own writing aloud. These videos showcase the incredible progress our learners are making in literacy. From sounding out words to expressing their ideas with confidence, each student demonstrates their unique voice and growing skills.
At Boundary Park Elementary, we recognize that literacy development is a unique journey for each student. Every child brings their own strengths, experiences, and learning styles to the classroom. That’s why we are committed to meeting each learner where they are, providing the support and strategies they need to grow with confidence.
