OUR LEARNERS

Our learners in grade 7  are reaching a point that they need to be prepared secondary school. Managing emotions and preparing them to hand challenging situations will be important for them to be successful in the future. SEL will encourage growth for our learners and students will have sense of Belonging, Resilience and build their Confidence in their journey. Our students will learn how to develop a growth mindset and apply research-based goal-setting strategies to their social and academic lives. This helps students by being connected and encouraging by helping students set and achieve collective and personal goals. We can assist our learners to learn from challenges, recognize their personal strengths, and explore the unique aspects of their own identities.

We want to help our grade 7 students to thrive and be more successful in school, ultimately setting them up to be thoughtful and productive adults.

OUR FOCUS

Focusing on Social Emotional Learning will encourage our students in becoming complete learners. SEL is an important step for growth for all our students. Entering secondary school is a challenging and important part of their growth to becoming a lifelong learner. Our students will be able to describe challenges they might face as they prepare for secondary school. They will be able to identify resources where they can get help. Students will learn strategies for developing and maintaining healthy relationships, perspective-taking, and dealing with conflict as we prepare them for secondary school.

We want our students to:

  • Gain confidence
  • Set goals
  • Make better decisions
  • Collaborate with others in work and play
  • Navigate the world more effectively

OUR NEXT STEPS

How can students monitor their journey in grade 7 towards individual growth, which will lead towards a full-filling independent learner.  The students will be able to recognize that social challenges are common during adolescence and often get better in time with support from others.

With our school taking these next steps our students will be able to:

  • Describe challenges they might face as they prepare for secondary school
  • Identify resources where they can get help

With our focus on SEL students will adopt a growth mindset and will be able to set personal goals in managing their emotions.
