Instructional Strategies in the Mathematics Classroom
Surrey Educator Carley Brockway and her students discuss how a focus on instructional strategies promotes engagement and a deeper understanding in the mathematics classroom.
“We use whiteboards and as they are working on these whiteboards I will walk around the class and discuss the strategies they are using. When I have the opportunity to see their work I can easily see what they’re doing and also redirect them if necessary. It provides me the opportunity to ask questions about their thinking. They have to be able to defend their argument and oftentimes in the process of defending, they follow a new path.” – Carley Brockway
