Getting Back Up – Core Competencies in Action
“Life is designed to knock you down. It will knock you down time and time again, but it doesn’t matter how many times you fall – it matters how many times you get back up.”
-Lilly Singh
Every day in Surrey Schools, our students inspire us with stories of grit and resilience, of courage and strength, of falling down and getting back up. The core competencies along with literacy and numeracy foundations and essential content and concepts are at the centre of the redesign of curriculum and assessment. Core competencies are the enduring skills and abilities that all students need to develop in order to engage in deep learning and life-long learning.
Watch this powerful story of Emma and Evan, two student leaders facing challenges but not letting these challenges define who they are.
“Supported by a sense of self-worth, self-awareness, and positive identity, students become confident individuals who take satisfaction in who they are, and what they can do to contribute to their own well-being and to the well-being of their family, community, and society.”
